Serena Thomas, LMHC
Brand Partner
Serena Thomas has a Masters in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) and a Masters of Cultural Anthropology (MA), alongside 18 years of international clinical experience— working in urban and humanitarian emergency zones across 16 countries, most recently Congo, Iraq and Ukraine.
Currently, in New York City, she is a licensed therapist seeing adolescent and adult clients where she creates a safe space for clients to break free from their limitations and get unstuck.
She works from a model that blends psychodynamic, narrative and cognitive therapies. This means she is very interested in how the client’s early experiences have shaped how they love, grieve, fight and express their emotions. She is also attuned to the thoughts and feelings that keep circling around inside of the client. They are there for a reason. They have a story to tell. Serena is invested in assisting clients to become aware of the stories and voices that they carry around inside of them.
An additional essential part of Serena’s life involves being a psychological consultant for varying international NGOs in conflict and post conflict regions. Teaching in both English and French, she trains clinicians in trauma and recovery. Her groundbreaking handbook on identifying mental health challenges and effective intervention strategies has been translated into four languages.
